Thrive in Five – Not taking it all too seriously

Not taking it all too seriously - dog in comedy specs

This week’s Thrive In Five Is About Not Taking It All Too Seriously and Remembering to Try and Bring A little bit of fun to your day

If you watch the video above you’ll see I am stood in front of a picture of Noel Gallagher. Why am I standing in front of a picture of Noel Gallagher? Well, firstly, I am a big Noel Gallagher and Liam fan. Primarily because it reminds me of university days there’s a lot of euphoric recall when I hear their real classics. I spend half my week in the office and the other half working from home, just to get a bit of variety. It’s a very short walk in between the two. I’ve taught lots about variety recently being a key part of wellbeing, but the reason I’ve got a picture of Noel, and why I’m talking to you about this is it’s a little reminder here in my office for me to not take it all too seriously, which is kind of what Noel would say, perhaps with an F word thrown in.

It’s just a bit of humour in a place where some serious business gets done.

We can still have fun as well, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. So we’ve got things in the office that help lighten the mood. Now a lot of you will be working from home at the moment. So maybe you can bring something into that room that you’re doing most of your work in that’s a bit humorous, that just lightens you up a bit reminds you of old university days or whatever it might be. That’s a great thing to do to energise your environment and energise you. Some other examples you can see in our office are other pictures we’ve got up on the wall there. They’re pictures of various different adventures that we’ve done. So the Arctic circle race, the marathons, some other fun events that we’ve done.

It’s just a little reminder, there is a bigger world out there.

We’re going to get back to adventurous times, this too shall pass. So just have a look at your environment, get something on the walls that’s fun and get a picture in a frame in front of you in the primary place where you work, so that you can see beyond the immediate kind of same old or perhaps some anxiety about the return to the office. That’s about the best advice I can give you right now in terms of a variety and energising your environment. So I hope that’s helpful and as always have a go and let us know how you get on!
