When it comes to health, fitness and diet, there is so much conflicting information out there that it can sometimes feel overwhelming. One day a glass of red wine is good for you, the following day it isn’t. Or have you ever ask yourself the question whether you should be doing longer runs or stick to weight training only? And what about these short bursts of HIIT training that seem so popular right now? Are they enough to keep you healthy and fit?
No more one-size-fits-all
At Bodyshot Performance we recognised that the information around health, fitness and diet is often too general and often over simplified. What may be true for some people in some cases may not be true for others. For example, some people lose a lot of weight once they start running and some people don’t lose anything at all. The fact is, we are all unique and our body’s biochemical and hormonal responses to exercise and diet are also unique. Therefore, the diet and fitness programme that works for your best friend may not work for you.
A highly personalised approach
To cut through all this conflicting information, we take a highly personalised approach to our client’s health and fitness. It’s an approach that goes far beyond the “tailored” fitness programme you get in a gym (any good fitness coach will always adapt your programme to your ability anyway. It should be tailored with your goals and level of fitness in mind). We analyse our client’s DNA and analyse their bloods. It doesn’t get more personalised than that. The DNA results will tell us what type of training our clients’ bodies will respond to faster and what type of diet works best for their bodies. They will also tell us if their requirements for antioxidants and Vitamin D is higher, what level of risk for soft tissue injuries they have and much, much more.
What does this mean for our clients?
We will design a fitness programme that’s not only adapted to our client’s current fitness level, but will also take into consideration how much time we’ll focus on endurance type of exercises, how much recovery they need between sessions, how much stretching and rest is needed in order to keep their soft tissue healthy. On the diet side, their program will be personalised around things such as carbohydrate sensitivity, lactose, wheat intolerance, antioxidant levels etc.
No more calorie counting!
The beauty of this plan is that is not a diet that restricts your calorie intake. It focuses on the quality of your food that your body needs rather than the quantity. Just to give you an idea of what I do: I regularly have 3 eggs, salmon and avocado for breakfast and in addition to that I need about 8 portions of vegetables a day. That’s a combination of raw and cooked vegetables, of course. But it proves my point that I’m actually eating a lot compared to the amount of food people think they should be consuming in a single meal. Of course, it also depends on your activity levels.
Cutting through the noise
Our approach empowers our clients, who are generally time poor and have often tried all sorts of diets and are fed up of failing. And its not their fault. We help our clients to cut through all the conflicting information about health, fitness and diet out there to help them achieve their goals without having to go through trial and error.
